Kimberly Watts, APRN-PMHNP-BC
Kimberly Watts is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who brings a wealth of clinical experience and a passion for holistic mental health care to her role at Mid Ohio Psychiatry. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree from The Ohio State University, where she honed her skills in psychiatric nursing and advanced practice. Prior to her nursing career, Kimberly also holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University, which has provided her with a unique perspective on the intersection of mental health and social determinants of health.
Kimberly's diverse professional background includes 12 years of experience working in laboratory science, where she developed a strong foundation in medical diagnostics and research. This experience has given her a deeper understanding of the biological and physiological factors that can impact mental health. Additionally, during her time as a social work student, Kimberly gained valuable experience working in inpatient hospital settings and volunteering for the AIDS Society, where she performed evaluations and helped patients access vital resources.
Prior to becoming a PMHNP, Kimberly gained valuable hands-on experience working as a Registered Nurse in inpatient psychiatric settings. During this time, she developed a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals struggling with mental health concerns. As a PMHNP student, Kimberly further expanded her expertise through clinical rotations in outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization programs, caring for patients across the lifespan - from children to the elderly.
Kimberly's dedication to mental health care extends beyond her clinical work. She was selected to participate in the prestigious Collaborative Online International Learning program with Norway, where she had the opportunity to conduct evidence-based research on homelessness in Columbus, Ohio and Oslo. This experience not only broadened her global perspective but also fueled her passion for addressing the complex needs of underserved populations.
Kimberly's commitment to education and mentorship is equally impressive. She has instructed a class in the Mindstrong program at The Ohio State University, sharing her knowledge and expertise with the next generation of mental health professionals. Kimberly believes that empowering others through education is crucial to improving mental health outcomes for individuals and communities.
In addition to her clinical and academic achievements, Kimberly is deeply committed to providing holistic, patient-centered care. She believes that a comprehensive approach that addresses the mind, body, and spirit is essential for optimizing mental health and well-being. Kimberly's compassionate nature and genuine concern for her patients' overall wellness set her apart as a trusted and respected provider.
Kimberly's professional interests also extend to the field of aesthetics, and she is eager to continue learning and expanding her knowledge in this area. Additionally, she is intrigued by the potential of TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) and brain mapping technologies, which she believes could offer innovative approaches to mental health treatment.
Kimberly's extensive certifications include being ASCP certified in laboratory work, NRP certified for neonatal resuscitation, and BLS/CPR and ACLS certified. These credentials demonstrate her commitment to maintaining the highest standards of care and safety for her patients.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Kimberly is a well-rounded individual who enjoys a rich and fulfilling personal life. She is the proud parent of three beloved dogs and cherishes the time she spends with her wonderful family. Kimberly's diverse interests include fitness, baking, and arts and crafts, which she uses to maintain a healthy work-life balance and nurture her creative side.
Looking to the future, Kimberly aspires to continue growing in her field, potentially pursuing a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) license to expand the scope of care she can provide, as well as a strong interest in aesthetic medicine. She is also committed to giving back through pro bono work, ensuring that individuals from all backgrounds have access to the mental health support they deserve. Additionally, Kimberly hopes to explore opportunities to teach at the college level, sharing her expertise and passion for mental health with the next generation of healthcare professionals.
